Alice Cooper Goofs on Minnesota Woman Who Petitioned City Officials Against His Show

We’ve come a long way since the days when anyone felt like rock ‘n’ roll had to battle for survival against the fuddy-duddy forces of social conservatism, but thanks to one irate Minnesota woman who’s desperately trying to keep Alice Cooper from visiting a venue near her home, we’re all getting a nostalgic flashback.

Southern Minnesota News reports on the plight of North Mankato resident Barb Church, who recently stood before city officials to try and argue for new restrictions on the types of musical acts booked at the nearby Vetter Stone Amphitheater.

Singling out metal cover band Hairball as a particularly noisy example, Church claimed Nelly’s stop at the amphitheater last year was so loud that noise in her home reached 110 decibels — and she shared her consternation upon discovering Cooper’s name on the list of this year’s upcoming performances.

“I’m to tell you here that I think Alice Cooper is going to be very similar to Hairball and Nelly,” Church warned. “Having now looked up the lyrics … I don’t think it’s wise for our community to have to listen to foul language. I don’t think we have to listen to things about suicide.”

Cooper, for his part, seems to have a great sense of humor about the situation. Responding via Facebook post, he conceded that “noise of that magnitude would annoy me too” — but quickly added that the distance between the Vetter and Church’s home makes it highly unlikely that she was getting anywhere near 110 decibels unless, as he put it, “the audience at Nelly’s show had their spleens ruptured by the loudest show on record.”

That being said, Cooper quipped, “I’ll give her the benefit of the doubt. I’m a ‘Nice Guy’ after all. I guess I could have my snake swim over some earplugs. … It’s the least I could do.”
