It just never seems to end in this town. Longtime hot spots for fun, food, and drinks seem to be falling by the wayside more and more each year. And, after establishing itself as Lansing's original sports bar 27 years ago, Tripper's in Frandor said goodbye to its loyal customer base Wednesday night.

According to a report in the Lansing City Pulse, the owner of Tripper's, Steve Tripp, cites financial hardship for the bar and comedy club. A second attempt at a comedy club inside Tripper's followed their longstanding charity poker room that generated quite a bit of business until the state made changes in the regulations for charity poker rooms. In the City Pulse article, Tripp estimated a more than 60 percent drop in visitors since those regulation changes went into effect.

I, personally, have lots of memories of Tripper's, including countless viewings of sporting events, numerous WMMQ remote appearances, live shows in the back area prior to the patio, the best pool tables in town, and of course, some great laughs at both the old Comedy Zone and the more recent Joker's Wild. Heck, I can even remember the days of the old arena chock full of video and interactive games, and the half court basketball area.

Thanks for all of the good times, Tripper's...you will be missed.
