According to the Detroit Free Press, the closure of westbound I-96 Friday afternoon was due to a semi-truck fire. The truck blew a tire that caused the fire. And, a blow to regional beer distributors...it was full of Budweiser beer, heading into the holiday weekend, none-the-less.

The fire occurred Friday morning near Brighton, closing westbound I-96 for nearly four hours, mainly because the recovery team had to empty all of the product from the truck's trailer before removing it.

This is the second time in as many weeks that a beer truck caught fire on a Michigan Interstate. Back on May 12, a semi carrying 40,000 pounds of beer overturned and caught fire on I-94 near Kalamazoo, as reported by woodtv.com.
