I'm amazed, yet again, in the abundance of ignorance that still exists today in "Civilized America". The country is still seething and reeling from idiotic, racist comments made by Los Angeles Clippers owner Donald Sterling last week. And now this...

Boston Bruins fans took to Twitter last night after their team dropped a playoff game to the Montreal Canadiens in the second OT period. The game winning goal was scored by PK Subban, an African-American. The next thing you know, the n-word is trending in Boston.

boston.com captured some of the Twitter comments. Click here to read, but, be cautioned, strong language is used that should offend you.

Seriously? Do you know how many times a particular word has to be hash-tagged or mentioned to get into a trending status? I don't know the specifics, but I know it is A LOT!! I knew that Boston fans, generally, are classless pieces of trash. But, this takes the cake. And, how bad does this look after the whole "Boston Strong", "We Are One" hype-fest that has taken place since the Boston Marathon bombings in 2013? There is nothing united about these comments. The only thing that can be labeled as "strong" is the outcry by the rest of America reading these outlandish comments that have no place in our society.

The sad part is, it's not just Boston and Bruins Fans. It's not just Donald Sterling. I hear degrading comments towards blacks, whites, yellows, reds, what have you every day of my life. I go out of my way to associate myself with intelligent, civil folks. And, yet, it amazes me how many idiots I hear in this day in age insulting somebody of another race. Hell, read the articles online about the Steven Utash beating. He is the man who was beaten by a mob of angry Detroiters after stopping to check on the welfare of a child whom he had struck with his vehicle. The comments from readers are truly shocking. To me, they're absolutely disappointing.

I have always believed this country was on the right path towards decency. And, we have come a long way since the civil rights movements of the 60's. But, obviously we have a long way to go. Ignorance, intolerance, and just sheer stupidity continue to drag our society down. Blogs, social media, and an overabundance of media outlets are doing nothing to temper the situation...in fact, they fuel it. Boston fans should be ashamed. Sterling should be ashamed. All of us should be ashamed, embarrassed, and upset by the continued persecution of fellow Americans. Wake up, people!! There is no place in society for this kind of stupidity!
