The Lansing Board of Water and Light told the Lansing State Journal that part of the reason the damage was so bad from Friday afternoon’s storm is that homeowners won’t allow utility crews to trim back trees that grow around power lines.

The BWL has reportedly had a plan in place since to be diligent about trimming back tree limbs since the December 2013 storm that left tens of thousands of customers without power for days, but residents have reportedly been resistant to the pruning.

Over 80 people in Lansing were still without BWL service yesterday afternoon according to the utility.
