Coast Guard Warns of Weak Ice in Southeastern MI

The U.S. Coast Guard is warning that unstable ice is of concern in southeastern Michigan and northwestern Ohio and advises us to stay off ice-covered waters for now, until more typical winter weather returns and freezes things back up again.

18 people were rescued after falling through the ice by the Detroit Sector of the Coast Guard just this past week; three people did not survive their falls through the ice.
