WMMQ congratulates the Pewamo-Westphalia Pirates football team for completing a perfect season, winning a Division 7 MHSAA Championship over Detroit Loyola Saturday at Ford Field.

According to our sister station, The Game 730AM WVFN, the Pirates capped off their 14-0 season with a 28-14 victory in the final game. P-W used a balanced offensive attack to win the game. Superstar running back Jared Smith was held to just 48 yeards rushing on 20 attempts, after amassing 2,568 yards on the season and a mind-blowing 8,185 yards in his four varsity seasons. Pirates quarterback Jimmy Lehman was 6-8 passing for 127 yards and two touchdown passes to Logan Hengesbach. Lehman also added a rushing touchdown to his stats, while Ryan Smith led P-W's rushing attack with 18 carries for 81 yards and a touchdown.

The state championship is the first for Pewamo-Westphalia's proud and storied football program.
