Memorial Day was originally called Decoration Day. At the first Decoration Day, 5 thousand volunteers decorated the graves of 20 thousand Union and Confederate Soldiers. Click here for more info on the History of Memorial Day.

I love seeing Red Poppies. The article also talks about them. In 1915, inspired by the poem "In Flanders Fields," Moina Michael wrote this poem:

"We cherish too, the Poppy red That grows on fields where valor led,It seems to signal to the skies that blood of heroes never dies."
