An interesting story twist has developed out of plans for an East Lansing development project. According to WILX.com, a new project called the Center City District will have Target as its main retail anchor. The Center City District would be built on property now occupied by City of East Lansing Parking Lot 1, along Albert Avenue and will replace some existing structures along Grand River Avenue as well. Senior housing, mixed-income housing, and a new parking structure are also part of the plan.

As for the new Target store, it will be a smaller version than what we're used to seeing out of the retailer. The 22,000 square foot store will be Target's first " flexible-format" store. According to Target's website, the store will open in 2019, offering fresh grab-and-go groceries, home decor and dorm essentials, health and beauty products, and some select apparel.
