Local Dancers Unite for DANCE Lansing the 10th Annual Community Dance Project Summer Festival Lansing, Michigan
Over 80 dancers from throughout Mid-Michigan, will present over 45 original new works of choreography in a series of concerts presented to the community FREE of charge.
DANCE Lansing Community Dance Project is the new name for a collaboration with goals of building a diverse community of dancers to enrich the creative performance and educational opportunities for area choreographers and dancers, and to increase audience appreciation and understanding of contemporary dance.
The foundation of this collaboration is a partnership of Happendance and Lansing Community College Performing Arts with Everett High School Dance Program, Fusion Dance Center, Greater Lansing Academy of Dance, MICA Gallery, Michigan State University, and MSU Orchesis as Associates.
Performances are free and open to the public. They'll take place Tuesday, July 28, Wednesday, July 29, Thursday, July 30, and Friday, July 31 at 7 p.m. at Dart Auditorium on LCC’s campus; Tuesday, August 4 at 7 p.m. at MICA Gallery in Old Town; Wednesday, August 5 at 3 p.m. and 6 p.m. at Allen Street Marketplace; Thursday, August 6 at 7 p.m. at The Robin Theatre in REO Town; and Saturday, August 8 at 2 p.m. at Lansing Jazzfest in Old Town.
Because of the significant number of original works, each program will contain a unique collection of choreography. No two concerts will be exactly the same. In addition, all venues are handicap accessible.
Happendance Velocity!, Greater Lansing Ballet Company, Lansing Community College Dance, and Eastern Michigan University will appear. In addition, the first inductees to the DANCE Lansing Hall Of Fame will be honored. Inductees are chosen for their contribution to the advancement of the art of dance in the Mid-Michigan area. Theda Assiff, Judi Pressick, and the late Virgiline Simmons will be honored for their founding of the Lansing Ballet Association.
