With the exception of the early Canada goose season, the official start to fall hunting starts on September 15. Squirrel, rabbit (cotton tail) and wild turkey (Tom or hen) get underway in earnest, marking the beginning of a busy time for some Michigan sportspersons.

This weekend will also see some groups of hunters enter the woods for the early antlerless season, Liberty and Youth hunts. Although warm temperatures and the new CWD guidelines, may reduce the overall participation.

Either way, please be aware that there are both hunters and non-hunters sharing the public lands and by all means, report all poaching and those who willfully interfere with legal hunting and fishing practices. There is no room for either in the Great Lakes State of Michigan!
