Free Fishing This Weekend June 13 – 14

Michigan's annual "Free Fishing Weekend" is this weekend! One of two weekends designed to get more people on Michigan waterways to enjoy the sport so many of us love. No license will be needed to fish this weekend, but all size and catch limits will be enforced.

Michigan is home to the most licensed boats in the country and ranks third in licensed anglers. This is a perfect time to take a kid fishing! It's also the perfect time to ask a friend or neighbor that may have never had the opportunity to experience it for themselves. Usually, someone who has never been will never ask. In the Lansing area alone, you have the Grand River that features some of the best smallmouth bass fishing. Largemouth bass, walleye, channel catfish, bluegill, sunfish, gar, common carp, crappie, perch, pike and even steelhead make their home in the Grand.

So the next time you drive over it, consider that a whole world of fishing can be done right from the banks in Michigan's Capitol City!
