So, as the Detroit Pistons and Cleveland Cavaliers get set for an exhibition game Friday night at Michigan State University's Breslin Center, one of the two teams is hosting a free basketball clinic for area kids...but, it's not the local favorite.

WILX.com reports that Cleveland Cavaliers will host around 100 members of the East Lansing Athletics Club for the free and private event. This really isn't a surprise, given that Cavs owner Dan Gilbert is a Michigan State graduate...and major donor. The Gilbert Pavilion at Breslin is named after the business mogul.

What's surprising, is that Pistons owner Tom Gores is another business mogul making huge investments in Metro Detroit, like Gilbert. In fact, the two have reportedly been involved together to bring a Major League Soccer franchise to Detroit.

Given the tarnished image, locally, about the once great Pistons franchise, it seems that Gores would want to get involved in an event like this in the Lansing Area, too. Remember, it used to take Lansing Pistons fans 45 minutes to an hour to get to The Palace of Auburn Hills. Not the 90 minutes to Little Caesars Arena.

Maybe next time...
