The Detroit Free Press is reporting that GameStop is the latest retailer to announce mass store closings in 2017. Citing competition from Amazon, Best Buy and digital gaming purchases, GameStop has plans to close 150 stores worldwide.

But, the news isn't all bad for the GameStop brand. According to the story, its Spring Mobile and ThinkGeek brands have shown growth. GameStop Technology Brand stores will increase by 65, GameStop Collectibles will open 35 new locations.

The overall number of store closings isn't all that shocking, compared to the likes of other retailers like Sears/KMart, Macy's and JCPenney. 150 closures is only about 2-3 percent of its 7,500 stores around the world. No specific store locations have been announced as of yet for closure.
