The current flu epidemic took off in October of last year and has taken hold of residents in every state of the union, except Hawaii. Many people I've talked to say that this particular strain is quite a beast and seems to linger beyond reasonable expectations. One friend I talked with said she coughed so hard she was bleeding from the ear. I'm not a doctor, and rarely see one, but I might have that checked out.

I texted my friend Sonja for her "Hot Toddy" go-to for when she feels a cold/the flu trying to take hold. She shared the first recipe here, as well as the photo of necessary ingredients above. You'll have to get your own unicorn mug.

Juice of one lemon
Tbl spoon honey
2 dashes cayenne pepper
I shot scotch or bourbon
Add hot water to the cup and stir
Add an optional a bag of tea to the mix, steep for a few minutes and drink!

I was a little 'froggy' sounding this morning when the show started; been trying to ward off the ick with home remedies that include the zinc lozenges, apple cider vinegar beverage concoctions, extra vitamins and a reasonable amount of sleep. A pal texted me her home remedy she calls "Gramma Syrup":

1 cup honey

1/2 cup warm water

3 Tablespoons lemon juice

Heat (don't boil), then add 1/2 tsp each of ground ginger, cinnamon, turmeric

My variation of witchy-brew calls for 2 TBSP apple cider vinegar, 1.5 TBSP maple syrup, about a tsp cinnamon, about 2 tsp turmeric, a shake of cayenne and hot water. Mmm.

Good luck!
