Ingham County Scam Alert!

If someone calls you and says they're from the Ingham County Sheriff's Office, they are not telling you the truth.

There have been recent reports from residents of calls coming from 517-676-2431, which IS the main number for the Department (bad guys are good at trickery). The caller has been telling people that they'll be arrested and charged with Tax Fraud if they don't cough up some cash for 'back taxes'. That's not true.

The Sheriff's Office wont' call, email or fax you; they just show up at your house if they need to chat with you. Or you'll get something in the mail.

If you do receive a scam call, unleash an air horn into the phone (my suggestion, not that of the Ingham County Sheriff's Office), then report it to the real police.
