It was believed that an electric barrier would keep the invasive Asian carp from entering the Great Lakes from the Illinois River, but it looks light that might not be the case. We learned in June that an 8 pound invasive silver carp was caught about nine miles from Lake Michigan.

Should the species catch hold in the Great Lakes, it could devastate the ecology of the largest group of freshwater lakes on the planet, as well as the economy of the ecosystem.

So, got any ideas on how to keep the Asian carp outta here? There's a money prize on the table for the best idea. The state of Michigan has created the "Invasive Carp Challenge" - get the details here www.michigan.gov/carpchallenge.
