KISS Says Yes to Reunion

Kiss Unmasked
Mercury Records

Now that Kiss have finally been inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame, the next big question is, Will the original foursome, who have been apart for about a decade, perform together at the induction ceremony in their former hometown of New York City in April?

“Sure, why not?” founding bassist and singer Gene Simmons tells Rolling Stone. “They [lead guitarist Ace Frehley and drummer Peter Criss] were equally important in the formation of the band. When you have kids with your first wife, you give kudos. The fact you got remarried doesn’t delete or minimize [that].” Still, he’s perfectly clear that “Kiss is Tommy Thayer, Eric Singer, Paul Stanley and Gene Simmons.”

Based on his recent Twitter post, Simmons’ longtime musical partner Stanley seems to agree, revealing that he had just spoken with Criss, and declaring that there’s “no way to not share in celebrating what we started 40 years ago.”

In a separate Rolling Stone interview, Frehley says you can count him in too. “Absolutely. Are you gonna want us to put makeup on? It’s been a while for me.” He also downplays any talk of bad blood between he and his former bandmates. “They’ve decided to make a decision and go in one direction,” he said. “I decided to go in another. I think the fans are more upset about it than anybody.”

Criss has yet to comment on any reunion performance, simply declaring, “Congratulations to Gene, Paul and Ace. Also to [former manager] Bill Aucoin, who I wish could have been here to share this with us.”
