I admit, I have been guilty of sneaking a peek at my phone while behind the wheel. And, I have heard about it from passengers and law enforcement officers, too. The recent efforts to step up awareness about the dangers of distracted driving have sunk in with me. It's a dangerous habit that drivers of all ages are prone to. I know plenty of adult drivers and student drivers that could take a lead from Holt High School students.

A good feeling came over me after reading on WILX.com about the pledge that Holt students made this week, vowing to keep their eyes on the road, and off of their mobile devices. Verizon Wireless and Michigan State Police made a visit to the school for an assembly Wednesday as a part of a combined effort to curb distracted driving.

Not only have students given a verbal pledge, signed, written reminders will be posted around the school.
