The Lansing Area Safety Council held their annual Safety Picnic at Hawk Island Park in Lansing yesterday as a thank you for all of the hard work that they do over the course of the year.

Kids from Lansing, East Lansing, Haslett, Holt and Waverly Schools were all in attendance to play games, enjoy hot dogs and popcorn, music, dancing and to learn about the many positive aspects of law enforcement and emergency services.

Many different municipalities were on hand from the Lansing Police Department, MSU Public Safety, Meridian Township PD, Ingham and Eaton County Sheriff's Departments, Lansing Fire, Michigan State Police, S.T.A.R.T. and even the FBI. The Michigan National Guard and The University of Michigan, flew in with  Blackhawk and Survival Flight helicopters for a close look as well.

And what would a party be without great music and a few local celebrities? WMMQ's drive time jock was on hand to whip the kids into a dancing frenzy with special appearances by Big Lug and Sparty!

All in all, a positive look at the men and women of our safety services in Michigan for the kids to talk to and have a hands on experience that may lead them to a career, later in life.

Many thanks to the fine folks at the Lansing Area Safety Council and their volunteers for putting on such a great event for a great bunch of kids!
