According to an article from The Detroit News, Detroit Red Wings great Gordie Howe is resting in his daughter's Lubbock, Texas home after suffering what his family describes as a severe stroke. In the article, his son, Dr. Murray Howe said that his father, affectionately known as Mr. Hockey, suffered what he calls a bad stroke on Sunday, and has lost some function on one side of his body. Howe, 86, is also having difficulty speaking.

Gordie Howe played a quarter century for the Red Wings, amassing four Stanley Cup rings, six Hart Trophies (M.V.P.), and six Ross Trophies (leading scorer). Howe reportedly had back surgery earlier this summer. But his son, Murray, says that his father had recuperated from that to walk as much as a mile per day before Sunday's ordeal.
