The home opener at Cooley Law School Stadium was picture perfect weatherwise, and the game was what every fan hopes to see every time they come to the park, all 6,423 Saturday. The Lansing Lugnuts out-slugged the Great Lakes Loons Saturday night 9-8 to improve to 3-0 on the season.

Prior to the LAFCU Fireworks Show Saturday night, the teams on the field had their own explosive display at the plate, combining for 17 runs. The Lugnuts got home runs from Bradley Jones and Edward Olivares. Jones went 3 for 5 from the plate on the day. Nick Sinay, Michael DeLaCruz and Vladimir Guerrero Jr. all had two hit games. DeLaCruz added three RBI's to his line.

Saturday's Opening Day festivities couldn't have gone any better. Even though the Lugnuts saw leads of 4-0 and 6-3 dissipate, they got backup 9-6 . In the eighth inning, the Loons got two more runs back to pull within one. Pitcher Jackson McClelland got the save striking out Great Lakes slugger Oneil Cruz for the game's final out with runners on second and third bases. Starter Patrick Murphy pitched into the fifth inning giving up 6 runs on 9 hits, 4 strikeouts, and 1 walk.
