UPDATE: Bess, Clark and Izzo have all released statements regarding the transfers.

Bess: “My two years at Michigan State have been full of great memories and relationships that will last a lifetime. But after some great meetings with Coach Izzo following the season, I believe it’s in my best interests to seek an expanded role as I look elsewhere to continue my basketball career. I’d like to thank my teammates and coaches for all they’ve done for me. And a special thank you to Spartan fans for their support over the last two seasons.”

Clark: "I want to say that nothing can replace the experiences I gained while playing for Coach Izzo. I’ll always love and respect him for giving me the opportunity to put on a Spartan uniform. With that said, I do feel it’s in my best interests to find a new home to continue my college career."

“My time here has been unbelievable. From Spartan Nation supporting me and giving life to us on a nightly basis, to the teachings of the coaching staff and finally my teammates and the bonds of brotherhood we’ve developed, it’s been a great experience.”
Michigan State is losing two veteran members of its frontcourt prematurely next season."

Izzo: "We wish Javon and Marvin nothing but the best in their careers. Javon battled through injuries as a freshman and Marvin had similar adversity this year, but I’m confident they both have bright futures. I’m going to do whatever I can to help them find the right fit moving forward.”

END OF UPDATE

Marvin Clark is set to leave MSU, according to CBS Sports' Jon Rothstein.

Clark, who just finished his sophomore season, had been a major contributor for the Spartans during his freshman campaign but saw his playing time evaporate--largely thanks to Kenny Goins--during his second year. Clark's averages declined from 11.2 minutes and 4.5 points per game in 2014-2015 to 9.7 minutes and 3.9 points per game this season.

Bess, who also is coming off of his sophomore season seemed to be recovered from the foot injuries that plagued him during his freshmen campaign. He started the first 13 games for the Spartans but saw his minutes decline as MSU put out bigger lineups that saw the emergence of Deyonta Davis.

Both players will have two years of eligibility remaining. Their transferring is big news for obvious reasons but also for recruiting purposes.

Michigan State is among three finalists for top 2017 recruit Josh Jackson. The star 2-guard has said he will decide between the Spartans, Arizona and Kansas soon. But MSU didn't have a scholarship available for Jackson in 2016-2017.

Until now.
