Mateen Cleaves Under Investigation for Sexual Assault
Former Michigan State men’s basketball star Mateen Cleaves is under investigation for an alleged sexual assault case in Michigan’s Genesee County.
The Wayne County Prosecutor’s Office has been transferred the case from Genesee County, MLive reports. No further details in the case have been made public.
Cleaves last was in legal trouble in 2010 for a drunken driving incident that was pleaded down to careless driving.
Cleaves is one of MSU’s all-time greatest players. He was the starting point guard on the Spartans’ national championship team in 2000, being named the NCAA tournament’s Most Outstanding Player that year.
Cleaves also was voted Big Ten Player of the Year two times. He was drafted 14th overall by the Detroit Pistons in 2000 before bouncing around several teams in the NBA.
Since his professional basketball career ended, Cleaves has spent time with Fox Sports Detroit covering the Pistons and most recently has contributed to CBS Sports’ coverage of the NCAA tournament.
