Legendary metal band Metallica hit another milestone. According to a Billboard article, the band's 1991 self-titled release has hit the 16 Million units sold threshold. This makes it the best selling album in the Nielsen SoundScan era, which began in 1991. SoundScan tracks music sales across all genres. Since the service's inception, only one other LP has surpassed 15 Million units sold...Shania Twain's 1997 Come On Over. (15.57 Million sold) Metallica over took the top spot in 2009. With nearly 3000 units sold last week alone, "The Black Album" has yielded a total of 16,002,000 sold. Last week's sales pushed the album to #144 on the Billboard Top 200. It has been on the chart for 307 weeks. That's good for sixth all time, a mere 554 weeks behind Pink Floyd's Dark Side of the Moon. I hate the term "sellouts", but if you must label and mock them, maybe think twice. Metallica apparently has the last laugh
