Democratic Congressional Rep. Dan Kildee of Michigan has proposed Federal legislation that would prohibit fish farming in the US territory of the Great Lakes. Kildee's contention is that fish farms can be destructive to fish habitat, spread disease and create problems by introducing invasive species. The proposed ban would also prohibit such 'farming' on rivers designated 'wild and scenic', with some qualifications.

We'll see how the legislation plays out from here.
