WLNS.com reports that state lawmakers are deciding whether or not to increase 911 surcharge fees for Michigan residents. And, it looks very likely that residents will indeed pay up to 12 cents more on their phone bills in the near future.

According to the report, the legislation was overwhelmingly approved by the Senate this week, as the bill moves into the House of Representatives for discussion. An increase on state 911 surcharges would raise the fee to 25 cents per month. Individual counties will also be allowed to raise fees from 42 cents to 48 cents.

The increased fees are expected to raise an additional $20 million per year.
