Former Michigan State wide receiver Keith Mumphrey is suing his Alma Mater over their handling of his expulsion due to an alleged sexual assault.

The Detroit Free Press reports that Mumphrey is suing because Michigan State's findings in the sex assault allegation against him lacked "concrete evidence" and that because he can not pursue his master's degree he can not get a job out of the NFL because of the University's actions.

Since the allegation surfaced last year, Mumphrey was released from the Houston Texans and has not been brought in by any NFL teams since.

The lawsuit goes on to say in part:

"Despite a previously unblemished disciplinary record and Michigan State’s initial finding of 'no responsibility,' Plaintiff now finds himself permanently dismissed from Michigan State based on false allegations of sexual misconduct and sexual exploitation by a female Michigan State student... The disciplinary process and ultimate finding were motivated by an anti-male and anti-athlete discriminatory bias against (Mumphrey)"

The Free Press' review of Mumphrey's lawsuit and a separate federal lawsuit from the female student Mumphrey allegedly assaulted indicate the two stories vary greatly as to what happened that particular night in the female student's dorm room.

The Free Press' requests for comment from Michigan State were not returned.
