WILX.com reports an update to the security breach at Michigan State University. Friday, officials said that a database containing some 400,000 records of employees and students was compromised, jeopardizing personal information for hundreds.

According to the new story from WILX, MSU officials confirmed that hackers were attempting to access the profiles in an effort to extort money from the university in exchange for the hacked information.

Officials declined to say how much money the hackers were looking for.
