The Detroit Free Press is reporting that the NCAA Basketball Tournament is slated to return to Detroit in 2018. First and Second Round matchups are slated for March 16 and 18, 2018 in the new Detroit Red Wings arena, which broke ground in September. Though the arena is in its very early stages of construction, the article suggests that the NCAA was excited to, not only get tournament action back to Detroit, (site of the 2009 NCAA Final Four) but to hold the games in a brand new venue.

The new arena is slated for completion in 2017, just north of the Foxtown District along Woodward Avenue. The NCAA says given the circumstances, a backup plan is in place in case of construction delays. The article also eludes to preliminary talks of holding the Big Ten Basketball in the new arena.
