Last month we learned that if you have a Kidde fire extinguisher that was manufactured between January 1973 and August of this year, it might not work when you need it most.

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission reports of one death caused by a problem with extinguishers made by Kidde. There were other cases of the affected models not properly operating.

Check your model number against the CPSC's list here and if yours is on the list, please call Kidde at (855) 271-0773 for a free replacement with a metal handle.

My Honey checked the two we have and one was on the recall list, so he called Kidde to let them know. They sent a free replacement (took about two weeks) and asked that we return the recalled extinguisher, for which they provided a free shipping label.
