Tom Petty And The Heartbreakers have officially kicked off their 2014 Hypnotic Eye Tour, rocking San Diego's Viejas Arena Sunday Night. The 20-song set featured plenty for the true Petty fans to enjoy, including four from the new LP, and a few token cover songs...something common to Petty shows since the Mudcrutch days. notably missing from the set are any crowd faves like "Here Comes My Girl", and "Even The Losers" from Damn The Torpedoes, "Breakdown", and every song from Hard Promises. But, that doesn't mean the band was holding back any punches. Fans were treated to some deeper album cuts like an acoustic version of "Rebels" from Southern Accents. From the same album, live favorite "Spike" found its way back into the set list, along with The Traveling Wilburys' classic "Tweeter and The Monkey Man".

Prior to The Heartbreakers' set, Steve Winwood warmed up the crowd with a classic-packed 9-song set that featured "Can't Find My Way Home", "I'm A Man", and "Low Spark Of High Heeled Boys". In fact, all but one song performed by Winwood were Traffic, Spencer Davis Group, or Blind Faith songs. "Higher Love" was the only solo LP song done.

The tour continues Tuesday Night in Boise, ID. Both acts make their way to DTE Energy Music Theater on August 24. With ten shows between now and that Sunday Evening, it will be very interesting to see if and how the set lists will change. Keep checking back to keep up with the tour!
