Thousands of people showed up at the site of the Silverdome in Pontiac yesterday morning in hopes of seeing and implosion of the former home of the Detroit Lions, Detroit Pistons, Monster Truck shows, Motorcross events and countless concerts, only to be disappointed. No dramatic felling of the dome that opened for business 42 years ago with a performance by The Who.

The demo company says some explosive charges failed to detonate "due to wiring issues". The blast "did weaken the Silverdome, and it could still fall, but it's unclear when that might happen."

The Detroit Free Press has a breakdown here of what happened - or, didn't happen.
