Mercury, the smallest planet in our solar system, is currently making its way between Earth and the sun. The transit across the face of the sun (at least the part that's facing us) started at 7:12AM EST and will last until almost 2:30 this afternoon. Last time this particular transit happened was ten years ago and it won't happen again until 2019. Next time after that won't be until 2032.

Our friend Mike Skywatcher will be in his secret observatory west of Lansing today with a solar filter over the camera, hoping to get some pics to share with us. He, and Bruce Springsteen, reminded us to "Never look into the eyes of the sun..."
