The Lansing State Journal reports that there have been at least 30 cases of potential Shigella infections under investigation in Ingham County in recent weeks, while eight cases have been confirmed. In context, there are typically eight cases of Shigella a YEAR in the county.

A couple of days after exposure to the highly contagious bug, those infected will typically experience fever, abdominal pain, vomiting and diarrhea that may contain blood.

To avoid the aforementioned unpleasantries, the Health Department advises thorough hand washing, especially after using the bathroom or diapering a child and always before eating or preparing food.  Please.
