The axe-wielding, left-handed genius James Marshall Hendrix was born in Seattle, Washington this day, November 27, in 1942. Jimi picked up his first guitar at age 15. And after a short stint in the military, found himself playing alongside the likes of The Isley Brothers, Little Richard, and Curtis Knight and The Squires before heading to England where Hendrix found his own breakthrough. Shortly after arriving in the UK, Jimi befriended some of rock and roll's biggest names, amazed them with his ability, and found success rather quickly...three top 10 singles by the end of 1966.

The magic faded away quickly, and far too early, as Jimi Hendrix passed away on September 18, 1970 at the age of 27. But not before countless classic recordings were layed down in the studio, and epic live concerts were performed...including three shows in Detroit.
