(The Six O'Clock Triple Shot is a daily feature of three songs that share a common theme, heard weeknights on 94.9 WMMQ)

Current Lynyrd Skynyrd frontman Johnny Van Zant celebrates his 55th birthday today. John Ray joined a reunited Lynyrd Skynyrd in 1987, assuming lead singer duties for his late brother, Ronnie. Lynyrd Skynyrd is still going strong today. They toured with Bad Company in 2013. They've lent their musical talents to television, recording theme songs for the animated series Squidbillies and for the reality show Pawn Stars. In 2012, the band released their latest studio LP, The Last of a Dying Breed.

Tonight, we celebrate Johnny's birthday with three featuring him at the forefront of Lynyrd Skynyrd. I've dug up an acoustic version of "Sweet Home Alabama" that the band recorded in 1994 for their Endangered Species release. We'll hear from their 2003 Vicious Cycle LP with "Red, White, and Blue". And, I've found a live version of "What's Your Name" recorded in the early '90s with Johnny singing. It's tonight's Six O'Clock Triple Shot, only on 94.9 WMMQ!!
