(The Six O'Clock Triple Shot is a daily feature of three songs that share a common theme, heard weeknights on 94.9 WMMQ)

Tom Petty finds himself in the news today, as The American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers (ASCAP) announced he will be this year's recipient of their Founders' Award. ASCAP describes the award as an honor for "pioneering songwriters who have made exceptional contributions to music, inspiring and influencing their fellow music creators." This surely describes Petty, whether we think about his work with The Heartbreakers, solo, or with Jeff Lynne and company in The Traveling Wilburys. Petty joins the likes of fellow honorees Paul McCartney, Stevie Wonder, Ann & Nancy Wilson, Rod Stewart, and last year's recipients Steven Tyler & Joe Perry.

Tonight, three from Tom Petty for your Six O'Clock Triple Shot to commemorate his honor. "It's Good To Be King" from Wildflowers, "Saving Grace" from Highway Companion, and I Should Have Known It" from Mojo
