This day in rock history sees Van Halen launching their first ever tour 36 years ago on March 3, 1978. The band had become favorites in Southern California, playing various clubs beginning in 1974. The release of Van Halen in February of 1978 opened the door for the boys to finally hit the road in other parts of the country. The first show outside of SoCal was in Michael Anthony's hometown of Chicago, IL at the Aragon Ballroom, opening up for Journey and Montrose. Check out this link from Van Halen News Desk that details that first show, the story behind it, and even the setlist.

Since this first tour coincided with the recording of Van Halen II and parlayed directly into that tour, we'll feature three cuts from the first two LP's.
