(The Six O'Clock Triple Shot is a daily feature of three songs that share a common theme, heard weeknights on 94.9 WMMQ)

Tonight, we celebrate a rock and roll birthday for a songwriting genius and session musician extraordinaire. Leon Russell turns 72 today. Russell has been apart of numerous albums with many rock, country, and blues greats. Russell is credited for helping to form "The Tulsa Sound" along with the likes of J.J. Cale, Leo Feathers, and the rest of The Starlighters line-up. He's worked with great names such as Clapton, Cocker, Harrison, Dylan; from Glen Campbell to Willie Nelson and even Badfinger and The Beach Boys;  Ringo Starr, Elton John...the list goes on and on. Leon continues to stay busy musically, joining Hot Tuna on some tour dates this year. He also collaborated with Elton John for the critically acclaimed 2012 LP The Union.

Tonight, we celebrate Leon's 72nd with three classics!! "Tight Rope" from his 1972 Carney LP, "Jumpin' Jack Flash/Youngblood" taken from A Concert For Bangladesh, and "Hey, Ahab!" from that 2012 The Union LP with Elton John. It's tonight's Six O'Clock Triple Shot on 94.9 WMMQ!
