45 year old Larry Gordon was inmate facing several felony charges as he was moved from a cell to the Berrien County courtroom yesterday afternoon around 2:30 when he wrested a gun from a police officer and fatally shot two court bailiffs. Gordon was apparently attempting an escape. Based on information we had at the time, we reported that the prisoner was not handcuffed at the time. Updated information indicated that Gordon did have his hands cuffed in front of him when he attacked the officers.

61 year old Retired Michigan State Police Trooper Joseph Zangaro and 63 year old Army Veteran Ronald Kienzle died at the hands of Gordon. Gordon then shot 41 year old Sheriff's Deputy James Atterberry Jr. before taking several hostages in the courtroom.

Gordon, who was facing charges of criminal sexual conduct, kidnapping, assault and domestic violence, was eventually fatally shot by two court bailiffs.
