The Ingham County Sheriff's Department spent about ten hours Sunday trying to apprehend 33 year old Eddie Rockwell Jr of Onondaga; they'd gotten a call around 11:25 Sunday morning that Rockwell was spotted looking into the windows of homes and cars along Edgar Road in Mason.

It also appears that Rockwell had crashed his vehicle at Barnes and Edgar roads before 6:00 AM Sunday.

When responding to the midday call on Sunday, sheriff's deputies located Rockwell in the 600 block of Edgar Road, he refused commands, wouldn't show his hands, fumbled his handgun when police approached; they took cover and Rockwell recovered his weapon and made a run for the woods.

That's when the hours-long search began, resulting in road closures in the area and nearby residents were asked to lock their doors and stay inside.

Authorities called off the search Sunday night. They got a tip yesterday evening that Rockwell was near a grain barn at Columbia and Edgar Roads; the perimeter was secured and Rockwell reportedly surrendered peacefully around 4:00 this morning.

He'll likely be charged today.

By the way, many residents in the area were alerted to the situation via a county-wide system; if you'd like to be notified of such things, as well as other traffic and police situations, you can sign up here to get notifications on your phone/email.
