The 3 Reasons Why Nick Saban Left Michigan State

In 1999, Michigan State was having its best season in a dozen years. Nick Saban and his Spartans were 9-2 and on their way to a Citrus Bowl.

But then Saban abruptly left MSU for Louisiana State.

The reasons why have been speculated and debated over the years: Saban wanted more money, he wanted more power, he wanted to be the top dog. But just what really happened?

Monte Burke, author of the new biography "Saban: The Making of a Coach," says there were really three main reasons. He also says Saban almost reversed his decision to leave Michigan State.

Saban is not happy with the biography. He said last week that he doesn't support any unauthorized biography, even though he was OK with several of the hundreds of people talking to Burke for the biography.

"There's really only one expert on my life, and guess who that is--me," Saban said.
