MLive.com reports that instances of ticks are up this year in Michigan, especially in the Flint area and the Great Lakes Bay region - that's what veterinarians are indicating. Sounds like the deer-tick is quite prevalent this year, which is cause for concern to pets and humans.

Check out the story for indications of what a bite might look like, symptoms and how to avoid getting bitten.

You also might want to think twice about answering the 'call of nature' while in the woods, as I just heard a story over the weekend about a farmer who stepped into the woods while working the fields - couldn't figure out the very uncomfortable itch for a couple of days until his wife informed him that it appeared he was bitten by a tick in a most undesirable place.
