Michigan State Basketball has missed on some big name recruits over the last 5 years in Jabari Parker, Caleb Swanigan, and Jahlil Okafor are just a few high profile names that somehow resisted the allure of Tom Izzo and MSU. But, the program got a huge boost today as the top ranked recruit in the state for 2016 chose the Spartans. University of Detroit-Jesuit High School senior point guard Cassius Winston will bring his services to East Lansing next year. Winston had also been considering Stanford and Pittsburgh after nixing Michigan last week.

According to the Lansing State Journal, MSU is now considered towards the top of the 2016 recruiting rankings, with at least one pundit saying the SPartans have the number one class in America. Last season as a junior, Winston averaged 24.1 points, 7.1 assists, and 5.1 steals per game for U-D Jesuit.

Winston, also a very good student in the classroom, may, for that reason, be a long-stay staple for MSU in the backcourt...not a one-and-done phenom.
