The Potterville Police Department reports on their Facebook Page that around 8:30 Saturday evening, a 44 year old Detroit woman was driving a U-Haul on Vermontville Highway in Potterville. When she came to the railroad tracks, it appears that despite the railroad crossing signals and the crossing gates in the down position, she attempted to get through the gate before the train got there. She did not beat the train.

The driver and her passenger suffered non-life threatening injuries.

Also, a local teenager on a bicycle had been waiting to cross the train tracks at the time of the collision – the teen bystander suffered some minor injuries as a result of the crash.

The incident launched the U-Haul into a utility pole, which knocked out power to much of Potterville for several hours. Crews reportedly restored power by Sunday morning.

This incident remains under investigation, but drugs are believed to be a factor in this crash.
