Update on Mid-Michigan Burning and Fireworks Bans

Earlier this week, many municipalities and fire districts instituted open burning bans due to the extreme dry conditions in Mid-Michigan. Fire officials have waited to announce any bans on personal fireworks until today. The rain we received early Friday morning wasn't enough for some fire districts to feel safe in allowing personal fireworks. Violators will be subject to a $75 fine.

Areas banning personal fireworks (public displays still scheduled except where noted):

Meridian Township - July 4 Fireworks public display postponed until December 31.

Delhi Township

Alaiedon Township

Delta Township (public display will proceed as scheduled)

Grand Ledge (includes the entire Grand Ledge fire district, not just city)

Watertown Township

Eagle Township

There are some areas that, as of 2:30 PM Friday, have not decided to add personal fireworks to their local burning bans. East Lansing and Mason are among those, though East Lansing has reserved the right to change their minds. Officials at the Clinton County Sheriff Department have said there are no bans on personal fireworks in the county, with the exceptions of Watertown and Eagle Townships. Eaton County Central Dispatch also reports no ban on personal fireworks with the exceptions of Delta Township and the Grand Ledge Fire District.

Remember, the opening burning ban remains in effect for all of Mid-Michigan. This includes bonfires and campfires. However, contained fires for cooking (grills, closed pits, etc.) are permitted.
