You may be itching to go out to eat now that restaurants across the area are reopening after temporarily closing due to the coronavirus pandemic. Many are only allowing guests to eat outside in an effort to prevent the spread of the virus, but is it safe? When it comes to taking the leap back into public settings, doctors say that dining outside is a good place to start. And our Governor's safety orders favor outdoor dining.

Fortunately we have many options in the Lansing area for dining outside on the patio. Besides, it’s summer time in Michigan, who wants to be indoors anyway. We get enough of that during winter. Being outdoors also makes it easier to keep a safe distance from each other, and it just makes sense. Keep in mind masks are still required when you are outdoors around others, but you can take it off once you are at your table.

I researched 20 venues in the Lansing area that offer outdoor dining. East Lansing is loaded with them, but you will find others downtown and on the west side of town. Check out the list, grab your significant other or a friend, check out one of these fine establishments, and enjoy a meal outside. It’s by far the safest way to go out and eat, but you still need to wear a mask, social distance and wash your hands. Be safe!
