Where is Grosse Ile Michigan?

For those unfamiliar with Grosse Ile, Michigan, it's located in the southeast corner of Detroit. Gross Ile is an island that is 9.6 square miles located in the Detroit River where it empties into Lake Erie.

For many years Grosse Ile has been well known for Detroit-famous coney dogs, world-class cultural attractions, walkable shopping districts, and innovative boutique hotels. Now Grosse Ile is known for a 600-pound raging bull.

600 Pound Bull That Raged on Grosse Ile Had to Be Euthanized

Could you imagine doing a little shopping in downtown Holland and a raging bull coming running down the street at you? That is exactly what happened to citizens on Grosse Ile in Detroit on Wednesday.

I'm still not quite clear why the owner brought the bull to Grosse Ile since they are not allowed on the island. Plus there is only one farm I know of on the island and that  Grosse Ile Township Centennial Farms and they have a few animals but more of a petting zoo set up for kids. Petting zoos usually don't provide bulls for the kids to pet.

Animal control officers, the bull's owner, firefighters, a veterinarian, and even residents spent 7 hours trying to wrangle the bull, and all attempts were unsuccessful.

According to the Detroit News, officials said, "The bull, which was demonstrating unpredictable behaviors, was exposed to children, drivers, and domesticated animals as it ran through yards, onto patios, and across roadways."

After 7 hours of trying to rope and pen the bull, the man who owned the bull came to the realization the bull was out of control and gave the police permission to euthanize the animal. A move many Grosse Ile residents were not happy about.

No word on what will happen to the bulls remains. The running of the raging bull is under investigation.
