A Man Was Charged With A Felony Because of MTN Dew
Imagine the crime. You're thirsty and head inside a convenience store. You see a sale going on with MTN Dew. The sale was, you could get 2 Mountain Dews for $3.
Like a normal thirsty person, you'd grab your two drinks, and head to the counter.
Either ironically though. Most would stop and drop $3 on the counter.
Joseph Sobolewski, on the other hand, headed to the counter, dropped $2 on the counter and headed out the door.
Unfortunately, like stated above, the sale was for $3, not $2.
The store ended up calling the police on the Pennsylvania man, and not only charged him with a felony but also locked him up on a $50,000 cash-only bond, with the possibility of seven years jail time.
This wasn't Sobolewski's first theft. Sobolewski had driven off without paying for a tank of gas ten years ago and was also caught stealing a pair of shoes in 2011.
Mind you, there is only a 50 cents difference from this man's latest theft, which could throw him in jail for seven years. This is all over 50 cents...
Unfortunately, under Pennsylvania law, third offenses of retail theft instantly grade you as a third-degree felon.
On top of this all, the man in question is also a homeless person.
Word of the wise, maybe pay the full amount the next time you want your Mountain Dew. Not that it makes much sense to throw a homeless gentleman in jail for a .40 cents difference.
